Go into beautiful Rothay Park to take a level walk by the river. Take a cruise or hire a boat from Waterhead on magnificent Lake Windermere, which is a fifteen-minute walk from the town centre. Get out into the mountain fells from your doorstep and take on one of the acclaimed Lakeland trails such as the walks to the top of Wansfell Pike, Todd Crag or the more challenging Fairfield Horseshoe.

Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
